Remembering Sridevi on 55th birth anniversary: Life of India's first female superstar in pictures

Bollywood actress Sridevi would have turned 55 today if time didn't snatch her away from us in February this year. 

The beloved actress passed away at 54 in Dubai due to accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub at Jumeirah. 

Ever since then, the void she left in the hearts of millions of her fan is left unfilled. 6 months since she passed away and the legion of her fans still remember as the unparalleled artist Indian cinema has ever seen. 

On this day, it's inevitable for us to look back into the journey of an actress who thrived gradually to become India's first female superstar. 

Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, Sridevi worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films before entering Hindi films.  She made her acting debut at the age of 13 with the Tamil film Moondru Mudichu.

The legendary actress made her Bollywood debut with Solva Sawan and then went on to deliver some wonderful films such as Chandi, Nagina and Sadma.

Sridevi’s most memorable onscreen pairing was with her real-life brother-in-law Anil Kapoor, while her most successful films were produced by husband Boney Kapoor.

Sridevi is survived by Boney Kapoor and two daughters – Janhvi and Khushi. She was Boney’s second wife.

Sridevi was reportedly with her husband Boney Kapoor during her last few hours in the hotel room.

In a career spanning over four decades, Sridevi delivered many memorable hits including Mr India, Lamhe, Khuda Gawah, Chaalbaaz, Nagina, English Vinglish and Mom. Sridevi was with Kapoor family in UAE to attend the wedding ceremony of Mohit Marwah.
