Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni's much-awaited web series The Family Man 2 dropped on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday (June 3). With the show, the popular South Indian actress marks her digital debut.

While Samantha has been known to play protagonists in her blockbuster films, in The Family Man 2, she joins as the antagonist. Samantha is seen playing the role of a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel named Raaji.

Soon after the release of The Family Man 2 trailer, netizens were angry that the actress chose to play a role that shows Tamilians in a bad light. Even "#ShameOnSamantha" started trending on Twitter. Many people also started demanding a ban on the series.

However, after the premiere of The Family Man 2, netizens can't stop lauding Samantha Akkineni for a brilliant performance. Ahead of the release, the actress' fans also showed support and trended #WeSupportSamantha on Twitter.

Talking about Samantha Akkineni's role, creators Raj and DK said, "She is fighting for a cause, something (that) she really, really believes in. It is an outfit that has plans to do something destructive and vengeful."

They added, "it is an aggressive and vengeful role, very strong and intense role. (It is ) something she hasn't done before."
