At the age of 15, Rekha was allegedly forcibly kissed by co-actor Biswajeet during the shoot of Anjana Safar. Soon after director Raja Nawathe said 'action', Biswajeet ''pressed his lips on hers'' and this continued for five minutes, said Yasser Usman, the author of Rekha The Untold Story. Everyone on the sets was cheering, however, there was no such scene in the script. The incident earned her the tag of ''sex kitten''.

Rekha tied the knot with actor Vinod Mehra in 1973 in Kolkata. However, Vinod's mother did not like Rekha and was infuriated to see her as the new bride. She humiliated Rekha in front of neighbours and even picked up her slippers to throw at the actress.

Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan's rumoured affair was in almost all magazines of their time. Both were first seen together in 1976 film Do Anjaane and then in Ganga Ki Saugandh in 1978. Gossip mills started churning rumours about their affair, however, both the stars remained tight-lipped about the whole affair till date.

A shocking incident happened at Neetu and Rishi Kapoor's wedding in 1980 when Rekha entered the ceremony with sindoor dabbed on her forehead and mangalsutra. Her controversial look immediately grabbed everyone's attention. After waiting for some time, Rekha walked up to Megastar Amitabh and Jaya who were also present at the party and started chatting. As per Stardust, Jaya tried to maintaine stoic silence but eventually she broke down.

Yash Chopra managed to bring this much-talked about trio in 1981 movie Silsila. Rekha revealed that later Jaya Bachchan stopped Big B from working with her.

Before Vinod Mehra and Kiran Kumar, the actress was in a relationship with actor Jeetendra. During the shooting of Ek Bechara (1972) in Shimla, both the stars romanced, however, it soon came to an end when Rekha heard Jeetendra saying that she was ''time pass''.

Rekha was also known for her unabashed statements. Once she said, ''You cannot come close, really close, to a man without making love''. After her series of affair, she said, ''It's is sheer fluke that I have not got pregnant..."

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai also criticised Rekha saying, ''Rekha has put such a blot on the face of the film industry that it'll be difficult to wash it away easily. I think after this any respectable family will think twice before accepting any actress as their bahoo.''

According to an excerpt from her biography, In 1990 the actress got married to Mukesh Agarwal but she didn't knew that he was suffering from chronic depression. Soon cracks started appearing in her marriage and on October 2, 1990, Mukesh committed suicide.

In 1969, the Asia edition of Life magazine did a story titled, ''India’s kissing crisis: To kiss or not to....''. The magazine had two photographs of Biswajeet and Rekha kissing. One was from the sets of Anjana Safar and the other was taken exclusively for the magazine.
