11 years of Ye Jawani Hai Deewani: Lesser known facts about Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone starrer

Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin starrer Ye Jawani Hai Deewani was released in 2013 and the superhit film has completed 11 years of its release.

Did you know that Ye Jawani Hai Deewani was made on a budget of Rs 40 crores? And the film proved to be a super hit project at the box office, earning Rs 319.6 croresworldwide.

Ye Jawani Hai Deewani was Deepika and Ranbir's first film after their break. Yeah well! everyone knowns that but did you know that this was their second film in total. They last worked in Siddharth Anand's Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008. The film earned Rs 61.57 crore worldwide, becoming that year's eighth-highest grossing Hindi film.

Director Ayan Mukherjee made Deepika, Ranbir, Kalki and Aditya to travel by car from Chandigarh to Manali. He aimed to build team bonding before the shooting of this film.

As per IMDb, Ranbir Kapoor did not even read the script and signed the movie. Ayan had written the lead role with Ranbir in mind only.

On the contrary, Deepika Padukone was not the first choice for the female lead in Ye Jawani Hai Deewani. Reportedly, Katrina Kaif was the first choice for the role. However, Katrina chose Dhoom 3 over this film, which is how Ayan Mukherjee starrer fell into DP's lap.

Well, that's not it about the casting part. Reportedly, Animal actor Bobby Deol was first offered the role of Taran Khanna, Aditi's fiance in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. However, the actor was filming Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and could not accept the offer at that time. Later, Aditya's brother and actor Kunaal Roy Kapur came on board.

2013 was a gear-changing year for Deepika Padukone. In 2012, the actor came up with Cocktail and proved her mettle in the entertainment industry. Then she started the 2013 year with a superhit bang, Race 2. Later she featured in Ye Jawani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela. All these films entered the 100 crore club and the actor registered an unbreakable record. Moreover, she also won the Filmfare Best Actor 2013 award for Ram Leela.
