The small car segment is amongst the most fiercely fought out segments in the country. The Maruti Alto has been dominating the space for over a decade, selling over thirty lakh units. While players such as the Hyundai Eon and the Renault Kwid have had a swing at the king, neither of them have managed to dethrone it. Can the Kwid's half-brother, the Datsun redi-GO pull it off?
The launch is around the corner, let's take a look at 6 things you should know!
-
Dimensions The redi-Go and the Kwid share the same underpinnings. However, the Datsun has a slightly larger wheelbase and a taller height. We think this will go a long way in liberating space for the occupants.
-
Space Since we are talking of space, the interiors can comfortably house four adults. The seatbacks of the front seats have been scooped out as well, to give the rear occupants a little more kneeroom.
-
Engine: The redi-GO will borrow the same 800cc, 54PS / 72Nm motor from the Renault Kwid. ARAI rated fuel-efficiency is identical at 25.17km/l as well. However, the Datsun is slightly lighter.
-
Interior The interiors are finished in a dull grey shade. What livens up the space a bit, is the piano black finish on the centre console. There's no digital speedometer or touchscreen infotainment like the Kwid, just a single DIN music system.
-
Price Datsun is looking to target the Alto 800 with the redi-GO. It will be the cheapest Datsun on sale in India, and will be priced between Rs 2.5 and Rs 3.5 lakh.
-
Launch The baby hatch can be booked across Datsun showrooms for a token amount. The official launch will take place in the first week of June, post which deliveries are said to commence.
