Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday, August 30, announced the Centre's decision to provide ex-gratia relief to victims of the devastating floods in the state. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured in the massive rainfall and subsequent flooding that led to the loss of human lives and damage to public and private properties.

"Grateful for the support! My heartfelt thanks to Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi for announcing PMNRF ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the floods and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured," he said.

"Your compassion brings huge support in these difficult times," he added.

Significantly, the announcement of the ex-gratia by the Centre comes after the Tripura government has declared the entire state as natural calamity-affected area following unprecedented floods. A memorandum issued by Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department, Secretary, Birjesh Pandey said on Tuesday, “As on date, 31 people have died, two are injured and one is reportedly missing. The preliminary estimates suggest a loss of Rs 15,000 crore due to the damage on account of recent floods”,

“Considering the gravity of the situation, leading to loss of human lives and damage to public and private properties, the state executive committee (SEC) of Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA) under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary in its August 24 meeting has decided to declare the entire state as natural calamity affected area. Accordingly, the whole state of Tripura is notified as a natural calamity-affected area due to the recent unprecedented flood, he added.
