Tripura CM Manik Saha calls for enhanced measures against border-related crimes

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a meeting with security agencies to address human trafficking, smuggling, and other illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Amid the increase in cross-border-related crime in the state, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Thursday (July 4) held a meeting with security agencies and emphasized that effective measures need to be put in place to curb illegal activities.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Tripura CM said directives have been issued to officials during the meeting to implement effective measures on the ground to curtail the growing crime.

He said, "Had a meeting with the BSF and other security agencies to review the issues relating to human trafficking, smuggling, and other border-related crimes. Directed them to take effective steps to stop all the illegal activities on the Indo-Bangladesh border. All the necessary assistance will be provided by the state government for this purpose."

Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that the meeting comes amid the growing incidents of cross boredr related crimes, including that of cattle and contraband smuggling at the Tripura-Bangladesh international border.

More recently, on July 1, the alert troops of BSF Tripura Frontier, during various operations at the Indo-Bangladesh Border, rescued three cattle, seized five kilograms of ganja, 2,100 kilograms of sugar, 100 bottles of Phensedyl, and miscellaneous contraband worth ₹47,17,207. They also apprehended one Indian and two Bangladeshi nationals during the operation. Prior to this, the vigilant troops of BSF Tripura Frontier had also rescued ten cattle, and seized 36 kilograms of ganja, 764 kilograms of sugar, and miscellaneous contraband worth ₹13,81,816.
