A major train accident was averted in the Noney district of Manipur due to the swift action of a Territorial Army battalion, according to an official statement from the PRO, Ministry of Defence, Manipur and Nagaland, on Tuesday. A goods train with 21 wagons carrying rice was on its way to Khongsang station when the Territorial Army soldier spotted track damage and notified railway authorities.
Actually, the heavy rainfall on July 30 washed away the crushed stone supporting the tracks between T-14 P2 and T-15 P1. The statement noted that this damage posed a significant risk of track instability and misalignment. A Territorial Army soldier patrolling the Jiribam to Khongsang railway line spotted the damage and immediately warned the authorities about the imminent danger.
Railway authorities were promptly notified, and Army personnel halted the incoming goods train at Kambiron. The Territorial Army's quick intervention prevented what could have been a major train accident. The Territorial Army is stationed along this section of the railway line to provide security for the ongoing mega railway project connecting Jiribam to Imphal. Their vigilance and prompt action highlight the crucial role they play in safeguarding this vital infrastructure project.
