Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday responded to those asking what have they done for the future of Assam. Taking to social media platform X, Himanta Biswa Sarma gave an account of how his government did a crackdown on encroachers.

"Many people ask what we've done to secure Assam's future. Here's a simple example: In the last 3 years, the government has evicted encroachers and cleared 16,776 hectares of land, including 9,646 hectares of forest land and 7,130 hectares of revenue land."

In the same tweet, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "Who were the encroachers? No answer is required."

In another tweet, the Chief Minister said, "What have we done for Assam? Over the years, we only lost land due to erosion. In the last 3 years, the Water Resources Department and Mising Autonomous Council implemented anti-erosion and pro-siltation measures downstream of Bogibeel Bridge, reclaiming 10,843 hectares from the Brahmaputra. This is how Assam is changing!"

"When Congress was in power there would be hundreds of embankment breaches, exacerbating floods. It would take months or years to repair them. This time we had a few breaches and most are being repaired in 2 weeks. Our target is to do even BETTER," he said.

"Improvising is an integral part of our governance culture. For instance, based on our learnings from 2023, we have decided for Amrit Brikshya 2.0 we will not procure saplings but grow our own. Rather than planting 3 crore saplings in one day, we will spread it out over 2 week," the Assam Chief Minister said.
