In light of the ongoing heatwave, school hours for all private, state government, and central schools in Kamrup Metro district have been revised, effective from tomorrow, September 21. The decision was made in consultation with the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, and the new schedule will see school hours starting at 7:30 AM and ending before or by 12:30 PM, according to the official order.

The revision comes as a precautionary measure to safeguard students from the extreme heat conditions in the region. Along with the change in school timings, several additional guidelines have been issued to ensure the well-being of students during school hours.

Additional guidelines for schools:

  • Morning assemblies indoors: All head of institutions are instructed to ensure that morning assemblies are conducted inside the classrooms to avoid exposure to the outdoor heat.

  • Adequate water supply: Schools must provide sufficient drinking water facilities and ensure that students are drinking enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

  • Relaxation of dress code: Students are advised to refrain from wearing waistcoats or ties as part of their uniform, allowing for more comfort in the heat.

  • Classroom ventilation and power backup: Schools are required to ensure that all classrooms are well-ventilated and that fans are fully functional. In case of power cuts, alternative power backup systems must be in place to maintain a conducive learning environment.
