In a significant drug bust, Assam police seized 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 24 crore in Karimganj district on Wednesday. The operation led to the arrest of two drug peddlers from Tripura.

According to Karimganj Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, the seizure occurred at the Churaibari checkpost on the Tripura border after authorities acted on a tip-off regarding the transport of illegal narcotics. "Upon thorough inspection of the truck, police recovered the large quantity of Yaba tablets and arrested two individuals associated with the trafficking," Das stated.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of the Assam Police in their ongoing fight against drugs, commending the successful execution of the anti-narcotics operation. In a post on X, he wrote, "Based on credible intelligence, @karimganjpolice successfully executed an anti-narcotics operation, intercepting a truck and seizing 80,000 YABA tablets. Two individuals have also been apprehended in connection with this case. Good job by @assampolice."

Yaba, colloquially known as "crazy medicine," is a potent combination of methamphetamine—a powerful stimulant—and caffeine, making it highly addictive. The authorities continue to crack down on drug trafficking in the region as part of their broader strategy to make Assam drug-free.
