According to authorities, the group had entered India using unauthorised routes and intended to disperse across various regions of the country.

This was Rahul Gandhi's third visit to Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state in May last year.
With the latest report of casualties, the death count in floods, and other natural disasters in Assam this year has risen to 78. As many as 10 rivers including Brahmaputra are flowing above the red mark affecting about 2.4 million people.

The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger marks at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Goalpara and Dhubri. The devastating second wave of the flood has claimed the lives of 114 wild animals.

The floods in Assam have impacted over 24.5 lakh people. It has also claimed over 52 lives while triggering severe damage to wildlife in Kaziranga National Park.
Manipur is currently reeling with floods as the incessant rainfalls have led to a rise in river streams. Imphal, Senapati, and Kongba have breached their embankments. Meanwhile, 25 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have reached Imphal from Kohima.
The police said that the five Rohingyas admitted during questioning that they came from a camp in Bangladesh and were planning to go to Hyderabad via Guwahati.
The incident occurred at around midnight, after which the security was tightened in the area, the police said.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held a meeting with security agencies to address human trafficking, smuggling, and other illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Kaziranga National Park has suffered significant wildlife losses due to severe flooding, with 31 animals dead and 82 rescued. Efforts are ongoing to manage the crisis, including the rescue and treatment of affected animals, and addressing the challenges posed by a straying tiger.
The Opposition party has been alleging that the prime minister is deliberately "turning his back" to the plight of Manipur.
Lakhimpur is the worst hit with over 1.65 lakh people suffering, followed by Darrang with more than 1.47 lakh people affected and Golaghat with almost 1.07 lakh people reeling under flood waters.
A high flood alert has been sounded in Namsai district and Wakro circle of Lohit district of the state as water levels of all the rivers have crossed the danger marks.
Considering the incessant torrential rains, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert in Changlang, Namsai, Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang, and Lower Siang districts. It has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days.
Assam's flood situation has worsened, impacting over 6.44 lakh people across 19 districts. Multiple agencies are engaged in rescue operations as eight rivers flow above the danger mark.
Rescue operations by the National Disaster Response Force, SDRF, fire services, and local administrations have rescued around 300 people in Dhemaji, 20 in Tinsukia, and three in Dibrugarh.
