So here we bring the world's spookiest cemeterie.1. Greyfriars Kirkyard – Edinburgh, Scotland This is possibly the most dangerous location on the list. Dating back to the 1560s, formerly a monastery garden, Greyfriars Cemetery in Edinburgh was established. This piece of land has a brutal history of war, disease, and death and is believed to be the most haunted place in Scotland. Here, the first copy of the National Covenant was signed at Greyfriars in 1638, which sparked 50 years of religious conflict. Years later, 1200 supporters of the National Covenant were brought to Edinburgh and imprisoned in the graveyard for months awaiting their trial. With no shelter, a small daily food allowance of just of bread, and other inhumane conditions, it was the world's first concentration camp. Some died here, some were buried here, some escaped, some were executed for treason, others were freed after signing oaths of loyalty to the king, but many of the freed prisoners died on their ship that sank on it's way back to their homeland.Visitors have claimed that physical attacks from an unseen entity has happened here, resulting in scratches, burns, bruises and even broken bones. 2. Glasnevin (Prospect) Cemetery – Dublin, IrelandOver 1.5 million are buried behind the gates of Glasnevin Cemetery. Who haunts this overcrowded 120 acre graveyard? A Newfoundland dog. When his master John McNeill Boyd died, his faithful canine companion refused to leave his graveside, eventually starving to death. Many reports have seen and heard the spirit of a dog at the tombstone. A paranormal experience I think everyone would actually enjoy. Coolest thing about this cemetery, they have a museum on site and celebrate Halloween with their own Samhain Festival including a Gravedigger Tour and Storytelling Supper. 3. Old Jewish Cemetery in Josefov – Prague, Czech RepublicThe Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague is the oldest Jewish cemetery in Europe, as it began burying the dead in the early 1400s. There are over 12,000 tombstones in the graveyard, but there are most likely 100,000 souls actually buried here. Strict Jewish customs prohibit the removal of gravestones from their original resting places. As a result of this strict rule, when the cemetery ran out of room, extra layers of dirt were brought in the graveyard. It was placed on top of old grave stones, and new ones were placed above the old. This resulted in 12 layers of coffins and graves. 12 layers! This cemetery is also home to the man that supposedly created a golem (a Frankenstein monster like creature). Legend has it, the golem eventually got out of control and Rabbi Loew (his creator) had to stop the creature. 4. Highgate Cemetery – London, EnglandThe Highgate might not be the oldest cemetery in Europe, but it is one of the most beautiful, and most haunted. This cemetery opened in the 1800s with Gothic style tombs surrounded by mystical gardens and trees. Combine this beauty with reports of the dead rising from their grave, and you've got one creepy cemetery. It's known to be one of London's most haunted cemeteries. Many witnesses claim to see ghosts emerging from crypts with glowing eyes, and some even claimed to have physical contact with the apparitions. One report even claimed that he was literally hypnotized with fear after getting lost in the cemetery by running away from one of these undead beings. 5. St. Louis Cemetery #1 – New Orleans, Louisiana There are 3 St. Louis Cemeteries in the Big Easy, but #1 is said to be the most haunted. Opening in 1789, it's the oldest in the city. With more than 100,000 people buried in a graveyard the size of 1 block, you'd expect that a few of the dead might have a little unfinished business. The deceased are kept above ground in crypts and tombs, because with typical New Orleans weather, heavy rains and floods cause them to surface. Giles Corey was the only person to die by torture during the Witch Trials, when he refused to admit guilt or innocent of Witchcraft, and was crushed to death by stone weights. Some say Corey appears in the cemetery right before tragedy strikes the town, and was supposedly seen just days before the Great Fire of 1914. Stull Cemetery – Stull, KansasStull Cemetery is also known as The Gates to Hell. In the past, a once fully-entact church was reduced to rubble. This crumbling church finally fell down on Good Friday. This quiet cemetery located between Topeka and Kansas City is listed by many haunting guides as one of the Seven Portals to Hell, and one of the most haunted cemeteries in America. Legend has it, if you go up to the church and knock on a rock in the rubble pile, as if you were knocking on a door, the Devil himself will rise up and answer.
