Sydney: One of the five hostages who fled the Lindt cafe siege was a Sydney university student and also a talented sportswoman.
Photographs of Elly Chen fleeing the cafe seen today afternoon have gone around the world.
Seeing two of the customers and another staff member fleeing the building, Chen too ran from the cafe about 5pm.
During her seven hours of captivity, the page of Facebook of the Sydney student and waitress became a virtual place for her friends to express their fears and worries.
Her friends then saw the images of her running into the arms of a police officer.
According to Chen's Facebook page, she has studied at the University of NSW since 2011. She has attended Sydney Girls High School and then Presbyterian Ladies College, from which she graduated with an ATAR of 99.25 in 2010.
Her LinkedIn profile reads out she is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science and Finance.
It even says that she was a national swimming representative and a state tennis representative.
