Vicki Heath, a spokesman for 2DayFM, said: "Is this a hoax call? You're having me on, aren't you? " When she was told that the call was genuine, she burst into tears. "I can't believe this, I just can't believe it. Oh my God, Oh, no no."
Both the DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian first boasted about the prank as the tragedy unfolded, and as outrage spread, they delected their twitter accounts. The Radio station's Facebook account was bombarded with abusive comments.
Both the DJs have been taken off air following this tragedy.
