It is estimated that Mount Toba, a super volcano, erupted 74,000 years ago and plunged the planet into an Ice Age that lasted for 1,000 years.
Although there are 40 such volcanoes that once existed, that have now become extinct, there is still an active one in Yellowstone Park.
