Seoul: The toll in the sinking of a South Korean fishing vessel has risen to seven as six more bodies were recovered in the waters near the site, the authorities said on Wednesday.

The bodies are of nationals of South Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia, Xinhua reported.

The 1,753-tonne vessel sank in the western part of the Bering Sea near Russia Monday. One person was confirmed dead initially, while seven were rescued.

The death toll is expected to rise further as the area is known for its cold water and bad weather conditions, which are hampering rescue operations.

The crew on board the ship included 11 South Koreans, 35 Indonesians, 13 Filipinos and one Russian inspector. Forty six people are still missing Wednesday.

The ship left the country's southern port city of Busan July 10 for the Bering Sea to catch pollack.
