London, Feb 12 :  February the eleventh is a significant date  for Middle East's turbulent history, reports The Guardian.On February 11, 1979 Ayatollah Khomeini took power in Iran after an Islamic revolution toppled the Shah of Iran.


On February 11, 1990 Nelson Mandela was released from Robben Island prison after 27 years by the South African apartheid regime.

Thus, the downfall of Mubarak's presidency came exactly 32 years after Ayatollah Khomeini took power in Iran, his Islamic revolution cementing the downfall of the Shah, who had fled into exile – to Egypt.

On the same date in 1975 Margaret Thatcher succeeded Edward Heath as Conservative party leader.And February the 11th is Sarah Palin's birthday.
