The year 2012 started with much panic and curiosity about the predictions that the world was going to end on December 21 as the Mayan calendar ended on that date. The day came and went, and life across Mother Earth continued as normal. Sulphuric volcanic gases produce acid rains, while chlorine content can damage ozone layer. While the hot lava can kill many habitats in and around its eruption, it can cause serious damage.2. Gamma Ray BurstsWhen Earth passes on the path of gamma rays bursts, it's dangerous and can cause destruction. Due to frequency of using rockets and other scientific experiments, there is a certain amount of damage to our ozone layer, which acts as a protective layer from all the powerful and harmful rays. While science keeps developing, it is also causing damage to us, and certainly these powerful rays are causing destruction to our planet , Gamma rays affect us causing acid rain.3. Solar FlaresWhen there are mass ejections causing magnetic outbursts on the Sun making high speed movement of particles towards Earth, the threat is real. A sun like star caused due to flares can brighten up, a super flare can burn up the planet earth and damage the ozone layer. This could bring about widespread destruction to our planet. 4. Asteroids and meteorsThese space objects can strike our planet any time, though with a possibility of 1:1milion. Several asteroids and meteors pass very near to our Earth, and someday any disaster could happen. Though international space agencies like Nasa and ESA are always on their alert, and have plans to put into place if an asteroid appears to strike our planet, yet the close encounter could be terrifying. 5. Machines overtaking manAs the machines are smarter, faster and more reliable, people prefer more machines in every sector. These machines work with a chip programmed in it. Thus one person's greed to rule and his or her mistake in entering a wrong feed into a chip with instructions for destructive techniques can cause the human life to go extinct. Use of too much machines can thus also be a cause for destruction.6. Nuclear warThe threat of a nuclear war has settled down since the end of Cold War, but the increasing number of terrorist and their deadly attacks can create a worldwide threat which could be worrisome. Conflicts among the emerging nuclear powers, or an attack on a superpower could trigger a series of nuclear attacks wiping off a majority of population from the face of the Earth. 7. Life threatening epidemicsDue to high rate of pollution all over the earth, there is depletion of oxygen in air causing the invasion of more active harmful germs. Due to such reasons there are chances of global epidemics which can cause death of many people causing destruction.Though scientists are working round the clock to find cure to some of the deadly diseases, there is a possibility of major epidemics which could wipe out life from the face of Earth. 8. Black holesA black hole in space is a region of gravity which prevents anything through it, including light. When objects move towards our planet, the scientists can see it, but in presence of a black hole it is difficult to know anything moving as the black hole absorbs everything that comes in its path.When a black hole passes through the solar system itself it can cause serious damage to Earth by causing sudden changes in climate and temperature.9. Vacuum decayThere are many theories stating that the space itself can shift to another quantum state vaporizing everything present in it. Though these theories seem unlikely, but we never know when anything drastic could happen.10. Alien invasion of EarthScientists are trying to explore if there exists any kind of planet which harbours life. There is always a chance of new forms of life invading our planet from a distant planet, though not now, it could be a distant possibility in future.
