Jakarta,Dec 17: An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude has been detected off the eastern Indonesian island of Sulawesi. There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered 119 km northeast of Luwuk, in Central Sulawesi province, at a depth of 18.5 km. No tsunami warning was issued.
The largest archipelagic Indonesia is prone to earthquake due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
