Islamabad, Jan 2 : At least seven Pakistani soldiers were Wednesday kidnapped by militants from a small town around 120 km from Islamabad, just days after 22 security personnel were abducted from the northwest tribal region, a media report said.
The incident took place in Jand in Punjab province, Xinhua reported citing local media.
The soldiers were kidnapped when they were on their way back to Bannu district in the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Rawalpindi after vacation.
The militants, covering their faces with veils, stopped the van carrying the soldiers and took them to an undisclosed location.
The militants let go the van without hurting the other passengers.
No group has claimed responsibility for the soldiers' kidnapping.
On Dec 27, an estimated 30 militants attacked a check post in Darra Adam Khel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least two security personnel and kidnapping 22 others.
A few days later, 21 bodies of the kidnapped people were found in Hassan Khel area near Peshawar. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the killings.
