Seattle, Jan 14 : Nearly six thousand people in the US state of Washington helped set a new record for the world's largest snowball fight, during Seattle's ‘Snow Day'.
Organisers say 5,834 joined in Saturday's event, beating the old Guinness Book of Records total of 5,327 snowfighters set in 2012 in South Korea Local news reports say the record attempt was certified by Guinness Book of World Records observers.
The snowball fight was held at the Seattle Center outside the EMP Museum where organisers trucked in 162-thousand pounds (73,636 kilogrammes) of snow from the mountains and sold more than six thousand tickets for the event.
The best prepared snowball fighters were equipped with helmets and ski goggles, but at least one woman was reported knocked unconscious by an icy projectile and several were spotted with bloody noses and bruises.
The day's festivities started with a snow fort building competition.
The event was also a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of King County and an estimated 40,000 US dollars was raised.
