New Delhi: British-Pakistani journalist Reham Khan suddenly shot to fame after she married former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan.
A lot was said and written about Imran and Reham then but the couple stood firm with their decision to marry each other, only to part ways after just 10 months.
Ever since Reham and Imran parted ways, their divorce has been making headlines and there have been numerous speculations about the reasons for the divorce.
Reham has been ‘demonised' continuously after her divorce and was even accused of poisoning Imran Khan apart from other allegations.
Now, finally, Reham Khan has decided to open up on her divorce.
During an interview to a renowned news channel, Reham Khan said that the couple got divorced because they could not have the right understanding between them.
“I married a man who convinced me that he loved me, who I thought had the same goals, but we were just too different,” she said.
Reham also spoke about the stigma associated with divorce for a woman.
Claiming that there is a smear campaign against her, she said, “My innocent children, they had nothing to do with this, and people have taken liberty to talk about them. There is a smear campaign, there is social media attacking them.”
“And this has been happening for over ten months. This was happening during the marriage as well, and we watched it silently because I was in a position where it was very difficult to then engage in a war of words,” she added.
On being asked about her plans to join politics, Reham stated, “I supported Imran in politics because he was a part of my family. If he did something else, I would've supported him then as well and he had no objection to it.”
Earlier, there was a buzz about Reham's political inclinations. Reham recalled, “Back in August when people started bringing up this matter and a few emailed Imran, I told him I can write it down for him on stamp paper to show to everyone that I don't want to enter politics.”
She cleared the air on the issue, stating that she couldn't join politics due to her dual national status.
“Even if I wasn't a dual national, I wouldn't have entered politics because it cannot solve Pakistan's problems,” Reham elaborated.
But she expressed her will to rejoin the Pakistani media soon, saying that her life was all about journalism and struggle.
Earlier, Reham Khan had also slammed gossip-mongers saying, “Everybody was openly discussing and interfering with our private lives in Pakistan” and that it was better to close the chapter now and move ahead.
The 41-year-old Reham Khan had married Imran Khan in January this year and it was the second marriage for both Reham and Imran.
