Attari (Punjab), July 5: The people of Pakistan, including politicians and bureaucrats, are not averse to the release of condemned prisoner Sarabjit Singh, his sister Dalbir Kaur said today while urging Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene for an early liberation of the captive.

Kaur returned home today after spending a month in the neighbouring country during which she met Sarabjit twice.

“During my visit to Pakistan I met a battery of media persons and top bureaucrats who informed me that people of Pakistan are not averse to Sarabjit's release,” she told reporters here.

Favouring release of all innocent Pakistan nationals in Indian jails for straying over the border, she clarified that she never demanded release of Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab, involved in Mumbai attacks.

Kaur urged the Indian government for an early release of 80-year-old Pakistani virologist Khaleel Chishti in jail for the last 20 years.

She could meet her brother, allegedly involved in bomb blasts in Pakistan, only after the Lahore High Court intervened and granted her permission to visit him in Kotlakhpatrai jail. PTI
