Islamabad, April 26: The Pakistani Taliban has distributed leaflets in many parts of the country, asking people to boycott the May 11 general elections, a media report said.

The Taliban warning came just hours after religious scholars issued an edict, declaring casting vote obligatory on the people, Xinhua reported.

Pamphlets were distributed in the port city of Karachi and Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning citizens not to participate in the upcoming elections.

The leaflets also warned people against attending political rallies.

Taliban spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan claimed that democracy was "un-Islamic" and was the agenda of secular forces in Pakistan to which they were opposed.

He said the Taliban would continue their fight against secular forces.
