The Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the attempted murder case — filed against him by Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Moshin Nawaz Ranjha, reported The News International on Tuesday.
According to the media report, the court has granted relief to the former Prime Minister till March 9 against surety bonds worth PRK 1,00,000.
Notably, Ranjha filed a plea against the deposed premier in October last year after being attacked outside the Election Commission of Pakistan's office in Islamabad. According to Ranja, he was attacked by the PTI workers who were protesting ECP's verdict, which disqualified their party chief in the Toshakhana case.
Earlier today, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Khan in the Toshakhana case.
Why he was prosecuted?
Notably, earlier last year, a large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protested against the Election Commission after it disqualified Khan in the prohibited funding case (Toshakhana case). However, the anti-terrorism court granted the former premiere pre-arrest bail and summoned him to appear before it several times. Subsequently, the court had last week asked Khan to appear before the court in person by 2 pm. However, he did not arrive on time, citing health and security issues. Later, the court gave him an ultimatum to appear by 5 pm.
