Islamabad: La Maison, a French restaurant, running in F7-1 a posh locality here, was raided and shut down by police after an outcry in media over over its policy of not allowing Pakistanis.
Cyril Almeida, a senior Pakistani journalist started a war on Twitter against the restaurant, comparing the restaurant's policy with apartheid.
It was also alleged that the food served at the restaurant was not halaal and even pork was served, considered un-Islamic.
The owner of the restaurant Philippe Lafforgue had said he would allow only those Pakistanis with dual nationality, but the outcry on social media continued.
"I cannot change the recipes of French food", said Lafforgue in a letter.
In 2009, another French restaurant 'The Cordon Rouge' in Islamabad barred entry to Pakistanis but it had to bow after widespread protests.
Police recovered huge quantity of illegal liquor from 'La Maison'. The raid was carried out by the police in the presence of TV camerapersons. .
