Islamabad, Jan 26 : Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has reiterated his commitment to work closely with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh for "friendly and cooperative relations" and to settle all issues through dialogue.

Ashraf made the remarks in a message sent to Singh to greet him on the occasion of India's Republic Day.

"The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to working with (Singh) closely for developing friendly and cooperative relations and resolving all issues through dialogue," said a statement issued by Ashraf's office.

Ashraf wished the people of India peace, progress and prosperity in his message.

He also conveyed his "heartiest felicitations on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan on the Republic Day of India".

Relations between India and Pakistan were hit by tensions earlier this month following a string of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two Indian soldiers and three Pakistani soldiers were killed in clashes before the Directors General of Military Operations of the two sides agreed to put in place measures to de-escalate the situation.

The two countries have held several rounds of talks since they revived their peace process in early 2011 after a gap of over two years in the wake of the Mumbai attacks.

They have taken several steps to normalise trade relations, release prisoners and ease travel restrictions.
