Islamabad, Sept 25: Pakistan prime minister says U.S. allegations that the country's premier spy agency is helping Afghan insurgents are a sign of American “policy disarray” over the future of Afghanistan.

Yusuf Raza Gilani described fresh pressure by U.S. officials on the Haqqani militant network as a “propaganda blitz.”

His statement late Saturday was a sign of the strain in relations between the U.S. and Pakistan.

The U.S. has long publicly and privately urged Pakistan to attack the Haqqanis, but it now says Pakistani spies aided the group in an attack on its embassy in Kabul this month.

Pakistan says it does not have the troops to take on the well-armed network.

Many analysts say Pakistan also wants to keep the group as an ally in Afghanistan once America withdraws. AP
