Islamabad: The twitter account of well known Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir was hacked today and his handle posted controversial tweets about the visit of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to the country.
The twitter account had an unsavoury, salacious and libellous statement about Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Swaraj pointing to the hacking of Mir's account. Other tweets also made statements contrary to the journalist's work critical of the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Pakistan Army. The account has some 1.67 million followers.
The handle also tweeted pictures of his purported email account as well as banking details.
Later, Mir tweeted, "I have been receiving a lot of twitter password reset requests recently. Someone trying to hack me".
"I have changed my twitter email and recovered the password. Thank God," he tweeted.
