New York: A photography company founded in Manhattan 110 years ago is looking to sell its collection of more than 1 million photographs, including tens of thousands of black-and-white images of New York City before World War II.

The collection of the Brown Brothers photography company includes photos from the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in 1911 and the sinking of the Titanic the following year. Headliners of the day are well-represented, from Mark Twain and the Wright Brothers to Teddy Roosevelt and Babe Ruth.

The Pennsylvania-based company has hired documents collector Eric Caren to sell the collection, with a price starting at $5 million.

Caren said he has already gotten interest from institutions such as Columbia and Yale universities, and the New York Public Library.
