At least 12 Indian nationals and a Nepalese driver were injured after their vehicle overturned on the road in Makawanpur district near Kathmandu on Tuesday.
The vehicle was heading towards Kathmandu from Birgunj, a southern Nepal town. It carried 12 pilgrims, including three children, and overturned after the driver lost control at Indrsarowar Rural Municipality, near Matatirtha area in the district.
The injured passengers were taken to Kathmandu for treatment, the police said. The 25-year-old driver, identified as Anil Kumar Sah, has been detained for further investigation.
The Indian nationals were on a pilgrimage tour of the Kathmandu Valley on the occasion of the Hindu festival Vijaya Dashmi.
Meanwhile, Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kumar Dahal 'Prachanda' greeted the Nepalese people on the occasion, saying that such occasions have kept the cultural unity and identity of Nepal intact.
The 10-day long festival is celebrated across India and Nepal to worship goddess Durga and Vijay Dashami is the last day of the festival.
"Such festivals that are celebrated with great enthusiasm in our country have contributed to further strengthen our geographical, cultural, and linguistic diversities, keeping our cultural unity and identity intact," said the Nepal President.
PM Prachanda said that Nepal's government is actively working to drive the nation towards the path of prosperity and bring positive changes to the people's lives with the institutionalisation of good governance and social justice.
