MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. -- NASA will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. PST on Thursday, Dec. 2(12.30 am Friday in India), to announce an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life, a Nasa press release said.
Astrobiology is the study of the origin, evolution, distribution and future of life in the universe.
The news conference will be held at the NASA Headquarters auditorium. It will be broadcast live on NASA Television and streamed on the agency's website at nasa.gov.
The press conference will be addressed by: Mary Voytek, director, Astrobiology Program, NASA Headquarters, Washington , Felisa Wolfe-Simon, NASA astrobiology research fellow, U.S. Geological Survey, Menlo Park, Calif, Pamela Conrad, astrobiologist, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. Steven Benner, distinguished fellow, Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution, Florida and James Elser, professor, Arizona State Universit.
Nasa scientists have discovered a bacteria that could prove that aliens exist. The microbe can survive in arsenic, an element previously thought too toxic to support human life. The incredible discovery raises the prospect that life could exist on other planets, which do not have phosphorus in the atmosphere. Phosphorus is believed to be vital for the existence of life.
Thousands of planet-watchers will be disappointed with the discovery, since many had expected the space agency to reveal at a press conference that it had discovered extra terrestrial life.
