Dhaka:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today drew rapturous applause from the crowd at Dhaka University by beginning his address to the varsity in Bengali language.

"Bhai bonera kemon achen (My brothers and sisters, how are you?)," Modi said at the beginning of the address.

Modi, who tweeted in Bengali throughout his two-day long visit of Bangladesh, reached out to the people and won many a heart by interspersing Bengali sentences in his hour-long speech at the University's Bangabandhu Conevntion Centre here.

"Amra tomar sathe acchi. Amra tomake sathe niyei chalbo (We are with you. We will move ahead taking you along)," the Prime Minister told the audience comprising politicians, intellectuals, students among others.

Modi was effusive about Bangladesh's hospitality.

"Yesterday Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal Chief Minister) told me you can never forget Bangladesh's hospitality. I agree with that," he said.

The Prime Minister spoke highly about his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina saying she has made development her "only goal".

Emphasising that the development of Bangladesh "cannot be stopped", Modi said, "When we think of Bangladesh we feel very proud of the fact that even our Jawans have given their blood for this Nation."

"Despite several obstacles Bangladesh has done very well. Bangladesh, like India is a youthful nation. The person who taught us a lot, Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been honoured by Bangladesh today," he said.
