Egypt: The political crisis in Egypt has worsened with thousands of protesters gathering in Tahrir Square demanding the exit of Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi.
Facing the protesters are supporters of President Morsi, and the death toll in clashes between rival protesters has reached 16 as of Sunday (June 30).
The army has given a 48-hour ultimatum to President Morsi to either quit or face action, but Morsi on Tuesday (July 2) rejected the army's ultimatum.
The armed forces had stated earlier this week that political powers have 48 hours to meet the people's demands or it will implement a “road map” for the nation's future — an announcement Morsi described as confusing while vowing to implement his own plans for national reconciliation.
US President Barack Obama has called upon Morsi to respond to mass opposition protests.
