London, Oct 3: An astounding 91 percent of British couples describe their marriage as “happy”, according to a new survey.

Among these, 17 percent said married life was just “perfect”, the Daily Express cited the study by online dating agency eHarmony as saying.

A total of 2,077 married people were polled for the agency's Happy Marriage Index.

Meanwhile, official figures also show that divorce is on the wane in the country—down from 165,000 in 1993 to 120,000 in 2010.

In an average week, married British couples spend two-thirds of their spare time together, with 31 percent of men saying they would happily spend all of their time with their spouse.

However, 56 percent of “happily married” women said spending time apart from their husbands was healthy, while 29 percent said they find it annoying if he is around all of the time.

The couples were mainly unanimous in agreeing what makes their marriage work—sharing family values (95 percent), goals (94 percent), and sense of humour (85 percent).
