New Delhi: Kolmanskop in Namibia was founded in 1908 when a railway worker, Zacharias Lewala discovered a diamond in this place and showed it to his supervisor, who then got the gem tested and approved.
After the discovery, a large number of German miners began to settle here and declared Kolmanskop as “Sperrgebiet” (meaning prohibited area).
Hundreds of German miners flocked to the place and wanted to try their luck.
