Thatcher's letter to Gandhi raises question of Britain's support after Operation Blue Star

New Delhi: A report published by a UK  newspaper says that the then British prime minister Margaret Thatcher had written a letter to her Indian counterpart Indira Gandhi after the Operation Blue Star took place.

New Delhi: A report published by a UK  newspaper says that the then British prime minister Margaret Thatcher had written a letter to her Indian counterpart Indira Gandhi after the Operation Blue Star took place.


UK's only woman Prime Minister had given full support to Indira Gandhi in the aftermath of 1984  Operation Blustar at Golden Temple complex, says the report.

The Indian government had made an apparent request for advice from the British special forces SAS in the months leading up to the raid.

In the letter dated June 30, 1984 Margaret Thatcher wrote: “These have been anxious weeks for you, involving difficult decisions.
