New Delhi: With an estimated personal fortune of $15.3 billion, 60-year old Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has won the crown of the world's wealthiest bachelor according to the Wealth-X, a global wealth intelligence and prospecting company.A bachelor, Paul Allen is an American business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He lives in Seattle's Mercer Island.Allen was born in 1954 in Seattle, Washington. He met fellow Lakeside School student and computer enthusiast Bill Gates when he was 14 and Gates was 12. Less than a decade later, in 1975, college drop-outs Allen and Gates founded Microsoft. Allen resigned after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 1983, and today continues to pursue other business, research, and philanthropic opportunities.He is the founder of Vulcan Capital and owner of an American football team, the Seattle Seahawks, and an American basketball team, the Portland Trail Blazers.Allen has also established philanthropic foundations for the causes of medical research, visual and performing arts, community service, and forest preservation.Allen is a musician too. He plays rhythm guitar in a Seattle band called Grown Men; the band released their first CD in the spring of 2000.Over the years, Paul Allen has established several non-profit community institutions that feature his private collections of historic artifacts.He is an active arts collector, he has gifted more than $100 million to support the arts.On October 15, 2012, the Americans for the Arts awarded Allen with the Eli and Edythe Broad Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. He reportedly bought a $27-million, eight -bedroom mansion in the Silicon Valley town of Atherton in mid-November.
