Allen resigned after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 1983, and today continues to pursue other business, research, and philanthropic opportunities.
He is the founder of Vulcan Capital and owner of an American football team, the Seattle Seahawks, and an American basketball team, the Portland Trail Blazers.
Allen has also established philanthropic foundations for the causes of medical research, visual and performing arts, community service, and forest preservation.
