It is regarded by many as the most successful semi-automatic pistol design of her time.It served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985.It was designed by John Browning. It was used by Lynette ‘Squeaky' Fromme in an assassination attempt on US President Gerald R Ford. Fromme was sentenced under a law covering assaults on US presidents. She was released from prison in 2009.
