The Syrian government, which relies on Iran's support in its battle against rebels fighting to topple President Bashar Assad, also said it was proof that negotiations were the best way to resolve a conflict.
“Syria believes that reaching this agreement is evidence that political solutions to the crises of the region are the most effective way to ensure security and stability, far from foreign interference and the threat of using force,” a Foreign Ministry official said in a statement carried on the state news agency.
The official was not named, but SANA is considered a mouthpiece for Assad's government.
