Top 10 Indian institutions in top 100 Asian university rankings

London: India has made dramatic improvement in an annual Asian universities ranking, with 10 educational institutions figuring in the top 100 list released here today.The Times Higher Education (THE) magazine's "Asia University Rankings-2014" named India

2)  The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP) is the first IIT to be  established by the government of India in 1951.

 

IIT Kharagpur has 19 academic departments, eight multi-disciplinary centres/schools, and 13 schools of excellence in addition to laboratories and central research facilities.The institute offers the Continuing Education Programme (CEP) for qualified engineers and scientists to learn technologies and developments in their academic disciplines.

 

The excellence of this institute lies in his motto that says "Yoga Karmashu Kaushalam" which means "Excellence in action is Yoga" essentially implying that doing your work well is (true) yoga.

 
 

 

 
3) Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur was Established in 1959 as one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology.

 

Institute's Academic Area comprises academic buildings and facilities including the PK Kelkar Library, Computer Centre, National Wind Tunnel Facility and SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre. It also houses faculty offices, laboratories and administrative buildings. The academic area is connected by a long corridor which links all the major buildings.

 

Some of the notable personalities include N.R. Narayana Murthy, the Founder and former Chairman Emeritus of Infosys,Sumit Chowdhury, President at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd,Som Mittal, President of NASSCOM and many more.

 
 

 

 

 

4) The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (abbreviated IIT Delhi or IITD) is a public engineering institution.

 

IIT Delhi, like all other Indian Institutes of Technology, conducts various programs including bachelor's degree in Technology, the Dual Degree Bachelor-cum-Master of Technology program and an Integrated Master of Technology Program.

 

IIT Delhi has 11 multi-disciplinary centers. An inter-disciplinary center differs from a department in the fact that it deals with an overlap of two or more disciplines of engineering or science.

 

Some of the notable alumni include Vinod Khosla (one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems),Chetan Bhagat (novelist),Kiran Bedi (first female IPS officer of India) and many more.
 

 

 

5) Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is a public university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India.It was established in 1847.

 

IIT Roorkee offers academic programmes in Engineering, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It runs eleven undergraduate (UG), five integrated dual degree, three integrated M.Tech., three integrated M.Sc., sixty one postgraduate (PG) and several doctoral programmes.As in other IITs, the institute follows a credit system for evaluating academic performance. The grade point average (GPA) is on a scale of 0 to 10. Courses are allotted number of credits according to their importance.

 6) The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is an autonomous public engineering and research institution located in Chennai (formerly Madras), Tamil Nadu.It is an autonomous statutory organization functioning within the Institute of Technology Act.

 

IIT Madras offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees across 15 disciplines in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Management. About 360 faculty belonging to science and engineering departments and centres of the Institute are engaged in teaching, research and industrial consultancy.Ordinances that govern the academic program of study are prepared by the Senate, the highest academic body within the institute.

 

 

Notable alumni include Krishna Bharat (Creator of Google News),Ramanathan V.Guha (Inventor of RSS feed technology) and many more.
