Kuala Lumpur: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday said that the India-Japan bilateral relationship has the "greatest potential".

"The India-Japan relationship has the greatest potential of any bilateral relationship in the world," Abe said as he met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi over lunch on the sidelines of the 13th Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-India Summit.

"Working through lunch with an old friend. PM @AbeShinzo hosts PM @narendramodi for the second bilateral," Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.

Earlier, Modi addressed the Asean Business and Investment Summit on the first day of his four-day visit to Malaysia and Singapore.

He also held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Modi will attend the 13th Asean-India Summit later on Saturday and the 10th East Asia Summit on Sunday.
