Libson: Former leader of Portugal's Social Democrat party(PSD) Duarte Lima was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for alleged fraud and money-laundering.
Judge Filipa Valentim said Lima had recurred to "inexplicable victimisation" and relied on his son to commit the criminal offences, Xinhua reported.
The former Member of Parliament said before the sentencing he expected to be acquitted.
He said the allegations were "brutal" and "unjust" claiming he had nothing to do with money laundering.
PSD leader and Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho has not yet commented on Lima's sentence.
