Orlando, Florida, July 29: A former astronaut banished from NASA after she attacked a romantic rival has been kicked out of the Navy.
Top Navy brass said Thursday that Lisa Nowak will be forced to retire with an "other than honorable" discharge. The discharge may affect her veterans' benefits and her pay grade was knocked down one rank.
Nowak was accused of confronting a woman at the Orlando airport in 2007. She had diapers in the car with her at the time, but Nowak disputes whether she wore them.
Nowak was sentenced in 2009 to a year of probation in the attack after pleading guilty to burglary charges.
Since her dismissal from the astronaut corps, Nowak has been working at the Chief of Naval Air Training station in Corpus Christi, Texas. AP
