Islamabad, Aug 31: A car bomb explosion in Pakistan's southwestern Quetta city today killed at least five people and critically injured 13 others as hundreds of worshipers headed home after morning prayers to celebrate Ei-ul Fitr.
The suspected suicide blast in a parking area in Balochistan's provincial capital killed five and seriously injured 13 people, private Geo News channel said. “I have a hunch it was a suicide blast where the bomber driving a car laden with explosive rammed into this parking area and blew it up,” a local police officer was quoted as saying in the report.
Eyewitnesses said ten to fourteen vehicles in the parking lot were gutted as a result of the blast. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion in Quetta's Gulistan road area. But the restive province is the hub of both Taliban militants and Baloch nationalists who have waged a militant campaign against the federal government.
The blast came as the country was celebrating three-day holiday for Ei-ul Fitr to mark the ending of the fasting month of Ramzan. PTI
