Boston, Apr 17: As details of the Boston blasts began coming out, Martin Richard, an eight-year-old boy waiting at the finish line to give his father a hug, was killed in the blast. The blast caused his mother to undergo a brain surgery and his sister lost her leg.
So far, 176 people have been injured out of whom 17 are critical.
Martin Richard died after the first of two bombs hidden in trash cans was detonated at the finishing line of the marathon.
His father, Bill Richard, who took part in the marathon, returned home still wearing hospital scrubs on Monday night and looking like the 'walking dead' as he struggled to come to terms with his son's death and grievous injuries suffered by his wife and six-year-old daughter.
Detectives on Monday night raided a Boston home after a man, said to be of Saudi origin, was arrested at the scene for acting suspiciously and taken to hospital, where he was treated for burns and shrapnel wounds.
At least ten of those critically injured needed amputations. Nine of those wounded were children, including a two-year-old boy who suffered a head injury.
