Sharjah: Emirati adventurer Saeed Khamis Al Muammeri is set to tour next week the world's deepest cave in Georgia to highlight efforts of the UAE Down Syndrome Association, a statement said Saturday.
Appreciating the novel effort of Al Muammeri, UAE Down Syndrome Association's chairperson Sonia Ahmed Al Hashimi said the youth can play a significant role in helping the people with the congenital disorder arising from a chromosome defect.
While inside the cave, Al Maummeri will hoist the UAE flag and post photos of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the joint statement from Al Muammeri and the association said.
Down's syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, causes intellectual impairment and physical abnormalities including short stature and a broad facial profile.
