Cairo: Egypt's Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Hamdi has said that his country is ready to provide "all possible aid" to the Lebanese army and security forces.

Hamdi Saturday said that the issue would be discussed with Lebanon's Army Chief Jean Qahwaji Monday, Xinhua reported.

"We support Lebanon and its national government in its pursuit of stability, and we will not hesitate in doing anything that serves the country in the future," Hamdi said.

Recently, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah entrusted Lebanon's former Prime Minister Saad Hariri with a $1 billion grant to support the Lebanese armed forces with their immediate needs to fight terrorism.

The Lebanese forces have been engaged in a week-long fierce battle with armed Syrian militants who infiltrated the border town of Arsal in eastern Bekaa after the arrest of Imad Jomaa, a terrorist leader of Al Qaeda linked Al Nusra front.

At least 16 Lebanese soldiers were killed and 86 injured while 22 were reported to be missing.
